L’Equipe: After Sheffield Wednesday went bankrupt and was deducted points, fans bought tickets and merchandise to save the club

Last Friday, the Sheffield Wednesday club officially announced that Thai businessman Chasiri would no longer be the owner of the club. Since then, the club's revenue has surged. In just 24 hours, fans spent €229,000 in the club store and sold 9,000 tickets for the match against Oxford United.
Hope was rekindled in South Yorkshire, England. Minutes before the game against Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday fans saw a message on the stadium's big screen: "The following file error has been detected: Chasiri.exe. Removal process is starting."
Chasiri is the owner who caused the club to enter administration. Fans understood that the Thai businessman was no longer in charge of their team, and then a large number of applause and praises were dedicated to the club.
Although the team lost 1-2 and is now 14 points behind the second-to-last place in the English Championship due to a point deduction, the fans are not thinking about that. The primary goal now is to save the club, and to this end, between the announcement on Friday and the start of the game on Saturday, the club sold an additional 9,000 match tickets and fans also spent 229,000 euros in the club store.
Thanks to the fans' unwavering support, club manager Chris Wigfield told the BBC that he is confident in future acquisitions. Four to five credible acquirers have expressed interest in acquiring Sheffield Wednesday. The league and the club hope to complete the acquisition as soon as possible, perhaps before the end of November.
Sheffield Wednesday, which is at the bottom of the English Championship, now has -6 points. This negative score is related to the club being punished with a 12-point deduction.
However, Sheffield Wednesday are still in deep crisis. The club could be deducted an additional two points on top of the 12 points already deducted at the start of the season for breaching EFL regulations, and could face harsher penalties this season for failing to pay players on time in five of the past seven months. In addition, the club is subject to five financial bans and is not allowed to spend transfer fees to introduce players until the summer of 2027.
